Could it be that you are really interested in learning more about me? Well, I’m flattered. As if you didn’t already know, my real name is Katy. I am twenty years old and currently living in a rural area of south England with my family. I am in a long term relationship with a guy who lives up north with his parents, grandparents, children and a plethora of animals (including horses)! I study computer science at one of the capitals top universities hoping to specialise in natural language/computational linguistics or artificial intelligence (but secretly wish for a future career in retail).

Hobbies

In my free time my hobbies include crafting (knitting, crochet and embroidery mostly), learning languages (I am currently studying Japanese but know a little French, German and Dutch), website design and development, playing computer games, traveling and, strangely enough, keeping fit. I am constantly on the look out for new (educational) experiences and challenges.

I recently started taking classes in Karate once a week with the Go-Kan-Ryu group. They teach classes mostly in the UK, Australia and New Zealand but also in Texas. As of yet I am ungraded but hopefully with a little practice I will be yellow belt (or further) by September. I find it fun to do and gives me the opportunity to get out of the house and be a bit more social, not to mention it is extremely good for your health. Indeed, I would recommend it.

My Future

I have some pretty average visions for the future that include the popular ‘get married’, ‘have kids’ and ‘live in my own house, decorated in my own style’. I intend to have completed my bachelors degree in June 2009 but I will continue to study on my own until I can earn enough money to go back and take a masters degree or maybe even a doctorate.

One really vivid dream from my childhood was to travel the world. I realise that I couldn’t possibly visit everywhere in one lifetime so I have narrowed this down to ‘I will be satisfied if I could visit 10 different countries over all the different continents, excluding England’. I am starting off with a trip to southern Japan in March 2009 with my mum. We are looking forward to viewing cherry blossoms and dressing in yukata. Places I most want to visit in the future are Peru, Egypt, Italy, Netherlands, China, Australia and Ukraine.

Some more short term goals include getting to yellow belt in Karate before I go back to university in September, passing the exams I took this summer, taking the Japanese Language Proficiency Test 3 in December, finding somewhere to live for the next academic year and gearing my new level 70 warlock on World of Warcraft.
